Exploding pods
The Illy expresso pods often leak in the machine. We had the same problem with a prior machine. We have tried cleaning the needle and spacing out usage, but the problem persisted. Very messy when it happens, which is often. But the coffee is great.

Not working and long process
The manual asks for descaling that is relatively long process. Then you place the capsule in the machine and press the star but it only give hot water that spills all around. It does not puncture the capsule. Real cheap machine with weird function

Breaks easy
The front handle is cheaply made. When opening to insert and remove the pods it requires a certain amount of twisting and torque and eventually breaks. I’ve found no way to repair or get a replacement part.

Coffee tasted so bad I had to throw it down the drain.
Flavor of coffee was disgusting and I can only return the machine so am required to throw out the expensive small capsules that won’t fit in my regular coffee maker.

Great little espresso machine
I have a nespresso machine, but I want to switch some flavors, so this looks like a good option. It’s about the same price and same size as my nespresso, but there are a few things I like more about this machine.First, I cannot use my nespresso machine to get a quick cup of hot water because of the design. If you don’t put in a capsule, the water will flow directly into the used capsule collector, instead of your mug. I don’t have that problem with this one. Really easy to get a nice hot cup of tea. Secondly, the water tank comes with a detachable lid, so I don’t have to remove the entire water tank every time to add more water. The white machine is also very aesthetically pleasing.There are some cons to this machine, mostly environmental-wise. Illy capsules are recyclable, but the recycling kit is 15 dollars, and you have to purchase that on their website. Nespresso recycles their capsules for free, and the capsules are aluminum, so I guess it’s better than the plastic capsules Illy uses. Nespresso also has a wider range of coffee to choose from.With that being said, I absolutely don’t think you need two capsule coffee machines, but I also cannot decide which one do I like more. I would say, get the illy if you drink both coffee and tea, but nespresso if you only drink coffee.

Great value, great espresso but the power cord is too bulky for a kitchen countertop
I love this little machine. The coffee capsules and espresso capsules make delicious coffee products in this machine. It’s very easy to use. I also invested in a set of two stainless steel reusable pods for coffee and espresso instead of buying the capsules all the time. I’ve used the reusable cups a couple of times and have had good results; still playing around with that though. My only complaint is the huge power cable on this machine. It’s way too long, plus it’s a super heavy-duty cord with a plug that sticks out from the outlet at least an inch more than a regular plug. The cord is very inflexible making it very difficult to position the machine against the wall because the cord won’t bend. Because the water container is at the back of the machine, I can’t hide the excess cord behind the machine without making it difficult to get to the water container. AND the machine I have is white and the cord is black. This is one of my pet peeves – a white appliance that has a black cord. Other than the cord issue, the machine itself is very satisfactory and makes good tasting coffee and espresso.

Love the small size and price
This is my second one of these. I love the very small size but it makes perfect espresso. For my lattes, I use a small battery operated frother after heating the milk in the microwave. They rival anything you can get at Starbucks for a quarter of the cost!

Amazing & Real Italian Espresso
When I came to the USA, I really missed Italian espresso. For example, in Toronto (Canada) I visited many Lavazza mono-brand coffee shops. But I couldn’t find them in the US, and after a couple of Keurig K-Cup regulars, I realized that I needed “rescue”. I was rescued by Illy company from Trieste (Italy). I have been there and tasted coffee from some members of the Trieste Coffe Cluster ( Pellini, Badzada, Illy etc.). Illy was one of them. Thank you for being in the US.

Poor Customer Service and Poor description of what pods to use for Y3.3 machine
Just purchased the coffee/espresso y3.3 and works fine but I’m very disappointed with customer service. I have contacted them 3 times to ask questions about what pods I can use for the coffee and no response. I wanted to get a milder coffee because the medium is still very strong but no response. Also, I tried to register my machine and it keeps kicking me back. This is very concerning because what if something goes wrong with my machine, what then? Very concerning.

Makes good espresso- pods feel wasteful though
I wished they could take aluminum pods like nespresso, but the only pods this machine uses are very hard plastic, and they are sealed shut and can’t be reused. The machine is good for the price though and makes very good espresso, easy to use.

Excellent coffee!
Not a no brainer machine like Keurig. Pushing “two buttons” simultaneously to turn machine off with any water left in the tank can get you a bath. The coffee is good. Machine is affordable. Clear plastic overflow tube atop of the water tank is sloppy and not connected. Not seeing how anything or than periesspresso pods (like brewed coffee pods) will work. Time will tell on durability. I fell in love with Illy coffee on a $1500 machine. This tastes just as good. We’ll see!

Junk
From first espresso it was only putting out 10-12 ml of water instead of 25. If I ran it twice it was okay. What a pain, though. It ejected three cartridges then stopped ejecting and I had to pick the pods out. Same with the coffee, about half the water (actual measurements). Ten days out I returned it. Have a couple of boxes of very expensive pods I tossed, no return allowed. Oh well.

Stop working after 6 month
I purchased this machine for my son as a gift. He had an older model that was ok, but I thought he can use a newer, better model. What a mistake! He told me the machine stopped working after about 6 months. Since he already gifted an older model he has no espresso machine. He is looking to purchase a different brand now, even though he was very happy with his old ILLY machine. I guess with time their quality went down.As it stands right now, I will avoid the ILLY brand. It is a waste of money.

Makes the perfect cup of coffee!
I recommend using medium strength or bold pods because otherwise it is too weak of a cup of coffee. However with those pods it is the best coffee, very smooth and creamy.

Don’t waste your money
On the positive, it is compact and we like the color. On the downside, it pours slowly, does not provide full espresso quantities and is cheaply made.

Does not work!
My second Illy coffee machine in last 2 weeks! and after brewing the 1st cup perfectly the coffee maker doesn’t work! Again! The brewing is so slow that it takes 6 brews or more to fill a cup (very slowly). This was the SAME malfunction on both makers! Now I have expensive Illy coffee pods and no maker. Tried contacting the company the 1st time w no response. Trouble shot from manual. No luck. What a bunch of bother! Repackaging, sending back twice! Don’t waste your time. SO disappointed. Still love their coffee.

This coffee maker has been problematic since day one. I now have to hold down the top with a board and clamp while its brewing otherwise all the heated water ends up in the discard bin. It looks like it’s ready to pop it’s top! I’ve only had this less than a month.

Good coffee in the capsules, too bad about the machine.
When new, there is a tray to hold an espresso cup, removable when filling a mug or larger cup. This is referred to as the “Espresso Cup Holder” in the manual. Ours broke after a few weeks of use. When you leave the espresso cup on the lower drip tray, the coffee splashes around, and leaves the machine covered in coffee splashes. I tried to order a replacement, and was told it was out of stock, but I could leave my email to be notified when it came back in stock. I never received a notice it was back in stock, and now don’t find it on Illy the parts order site.We are life-long Italian espresso drinkers. If you use the Espresso button to fill the cup, you don’t get enough to even call it a “ristretto”. So you have to use the full cup button, and probably hit it twice.We miss our old Nespresso machine.

I have read many reviews of this machine before purchasing the machine. As many reviewers said that they had welcome packs of capsules, I expected that it would come with the machine in a package. The package that I received today didn’t include the welcome pack. Disappointed.

Worked flawlessly for about 2 weeks
This is my 2nd machine. I loved it for the first two weeks, when it functioned as expected. Then the machine stopped keeping its seal with the cups. Idk if I drink too much espresso or what, but two pods a day shouldn’t result in a defective unit in such a short time. I understand that this is the lowest cost unit provided by the manufacturer but I don’t believe I got the value before it reached an early end of life. My first machine did the same, I thought it was defective, turns out these units just aren’t up to Illy standards. Beware of plastic coffee makers is what I chalk this up to. Now back to the coffee stands.

Plastic broke in 3 months
I actually really like this machine. With reusable filters, it makes great coffee (the pods are expensive over time).BUT … the tiny little plastic piece broke that acts as a hinge for the shelf – which is also used as the handle to clean out the used filter compartment.So now I have to put my espresso cup on the lower shelf and it splashes all over.It’s still functional, so I’ll keep using it. But I’m sad. This espresso machine was a special present to myself. I set up a coffee station and everything.

Coffee and espresso perfection.
While being a user of Illy ground coffee and after practically trying a multitude of other brands I find thisachine produces the best cup. I find the quality of Illy coffee superior to all others and especially the brewing process which is flawless without having the drip tray being full as the exact amount of brew is perfect. If necessary you can adjust both temperature and volume however default settings are perfect. I highly recommend this machine.

Don’t judge a book by its cover.
Coming from someone who roasts his own green beans and uses a Rancilio Silvia and Rocky grinder, I was looking for simplicity, speed and style. I bought the Y3.3 and the Illy frother. I will say that the frother, with some practice, can produce acceptable milk. Latte art? Maybe. Macchiato level coffee. Pretty close. The Y3.3 does ok but it takes two capsules to get close to what I want. If you preheat the cup prior to brewing, the temperature is good. Same class as Rancilio? No. Less labor and footprint? Absolutely. Unfortunately the Illy love affair ends here. The ordering of the capsules is confusing. I did figure it out eventually. Always I have to have the branded cups. Package had damaged items. Replaced? Not as of this writing.They said they would. Website? That is where the horror exists. Account set up, password reset, machine serial number registration all managed byItalo Bombolini in Santa Vittoria Italia. Links and buttons seemingly useless or directed to places unknown. Very stylish but utterly useless.Bottom line: Looks great, taste good, but…….any time and aggravation saved by this downgrade has been overshadowed by disappointing support. Maybe the Russians hacked their website? Or, zee Germans. Would I buy it again. Nope. Nespresso. I saw many of those machines in Italy. I didn’t see any Illy Y3.3’s. Just saying…

Coffee/espresso for fun machine
It brews both espresso and coffee out of the same hole, so you can always add a shot to each cup of coffee lol. Machine works fine coffee is a bit pricey per cup but taste better then Folgers.

Arrived Used and Pods were missing
Box was torn in several places upon arrival, the white box that contains the sample pods that sits on top was missing completely, cardboard inside was ripped, cord was just thrown in box, someone already read thru the owners manual, scratches on dispenser base, water spots in reservoir. Haven’t got a chance to use it yet, may end up returning it at this point.

Prefer it to the Nespresso Coffee Maker
Illy is very sturdy, made in Italy and the espresso capsules run cheaper than Nespresso. I made two cups of decaf espresso yesterday, and it was very delicious. With Nespresso, I always had water leaking from my machine and the difference in quality is tremendous. I’m glad I got the Illy.

As a former barista, this is the machine i’ve been searching for. I used to have a Verisimo, but the upkeep and capsules alone were impossible. Also it broke within a a few months. This is already so easy to clean (i can clean it in about 5 mins or less) and my coffee/espresso comes out consistently delicious. The crema is surprisingly on point for a pod machine. Takes me right back to being behind the bar. None of the “fake” bubbly crema like other machines.Another plus, I can turn off this machine without unplugging it. Most machines run constantly. It’s also so small and compact! Looks great in my kitchen♥️

Not worth the money

I bought this machine because of the sleek modern design.This is a gorgeous espresso machine but it does not work well.Idk if I got a defective model but mine had a hard time opening the top and it would sound super squeaky.It also makes the tiniest amount of espresso,not even a half of an inch in a mug.I bought it when it was $150 and now it’s on sale for $99.I would definitely pay $100 but not $150 it’s not worth it.

Capsules get stuck
This machine was a massive disappointment. Pods get stuck almost time when they should go to disposal compartment. It gives a lot of strange steam while brewing. Some pods miss being extracted and the flavors of coffee are pretty limited in strength and flavor compared to Nespresso. Completely disappointed. Kept the thing just for it’s stunning color and the fact that it was a homewarming gift.

Made entirely out of plastic!
Made out of plastic is not entirely bad if it still does what’s it’s made to do. Unfortunately, some parts were missing out of the box. We returned the item, so I don’t have an opinion on how good it works.

Would not make a cup of coffee
Right out of the box it made a 50ml cup of coffee and a 20ml espresso. The cup of coffee is supposed to be 220ml according to the the instructions. Tried to trouble shoot. Read, re-read the directions. Went on line. Nothing worked. Called the illy 800 number. I was told to call back during their working hours. Called repeatedly during their working hours but got the same message to call during their working hours. I left a message – never heard back – just returned the machine.Pretty frustrating experience. This was a birthday gift too. And I lose on the coffee I bought.
