    Perfect coffee, and stays warm

The look of this French press is great! I wanted something sleek that fit with my new kettle, creating just a little morning vibe. So first impressions were solid – a nice feel in the texture and color, clean and simple design, and a nice match to other appliances and kitchen decor. Moving from those first visuals, the interior makes making coffee or tea super easy, with minimum water and demarcations for max coffee or max tea. I frankly thought the filter part was a bit of a gimmick, but after brewing my first coffee I was really surprised at how little, remarkably little, grounds were at the bottom of my cup, and how perfectly rounded the coffee taste. Usually I also feel a bit of subtext pressure to drink coffee quickly when using a French press, since it can go cold fairly quickly – that is where this design especially shined! I could pour out an amount I wanted and just let the rest sit until I was ready for more. The last cup was as smooth as the first – and was still hot to enjoy! In a hurry up world it’s nice sometimes to take a moment and just enjoy…

Great Coffee, Keeps it Reasonably Hot

Update: After three weeks of use, here’s what I can tell you. This press has totally replaced my classic Bodum French press, which has been relegated to basement storage. My initial impression that it was harder to clean than the Bodum one was wrong. Actually, it’s easier to clean and I never have to worry about breaking it. My annoyance that it didn’t keep the coffee as hot as other reviewers promised (whoever said it keeps coffee hot four hours is lying) has totally faded because the coffee is delicious. While it does not keep the coffee hot like a thermos would, it does keep it nice and fresh and hot if you want to make a press and have it on the table throughout a leisurely breakfast while reading the newspaper or whatever. So, overall, I do stand by my bottom line. Great coffee, might not be worth the extra for the double-wall vacuum-sealed, but I can’t see going back to my old press again.Original review below:I bought this after reading a NYTimes Wirecutter review of French Presses. I’ve used a classic Bodum press for two decades, but after reading about the potential cholesterol raising effects of unfiltered coffee, was looking for an alternative. I use a Clever for single-cup filtered coffee, but most days I want to brew more than one cup at a time. Enter the Espro. And as long as I was upgrading, why not go all in with the double-wall vacuum insulated model? This could be my leisurely weekend coffee maker.Well, the coffee is great, but the added expense of the double-wall, vacuum insulation is not at all worth it. Kept the coffee moderately hot for one hour. After two hours, it was unpleasantly cold. I thought this would spare me the need to decant into a thermos, thereby saving me some clean up. But since there are so more parts to the filtration system than a typical press, it’s more of a pain to clean up, and doesn’t keep the coffee very hot.Bottom line: Great filtration, but the glass or non vacuum sealer metal versions would suffice. The top of the line version doesn’t deliver on keeping coffee hot long enough to justify the high price tag.

The double filters on this mean you don’t need as good a grinder

I bought this along with a super high-quality grinder, and discovered that I kinda only needed one or the other. The mesh filters are fine enough on this that you can get away with a relatively crappy grinder. You can even use regular pre-ground coffee, and it’ll come out okay. With a normal glass/single layer mesh press, using regular grounds will result in actual sludge in the bottom of your cup. With this unit, the Costco bulk ground coffee will leave some fines in your cup, but will work fine otherwise; the second layer of screening is good enough to keep the sludge at bay.If, on the other hand, you have a high quality, consistent grinder, you can buy a less expensive press and do fine. That said, pairing this with a good grinder makes absolutely *splendid* coffee. You don’t necessarily need both, but I doubt you’ll regret the purchase. The double filters can also help you calibrate your grinder; if the inner filter is getting many grounds on it, you probably want a slightly coarser grind. This unit is tall and skinny, and does better with a tall sink for cleaning. If you’re trying to rinse it out upstairs in a standard bathroom sink, you should be able to do it, but it’ll take a little maneuvering. The actual cleaning process is very easy, although you do have to clean two little baskets instead of one. It takes a wee bit longer than cleaning a standard press. The build quality seems good.Oh, one other note: because of the filter design, you end up with some coffee left in the bottom that you can’t drink. You’re using a more water than normal, so it takes more grounds than you’re probably expecting. Further, French presses need more grounds for the same amount of coffee, because they’re ground coarse and use a shorter brewing time. (normally 4 minutes.) I use six tablespoons of coffee per batch, and I get two 16-ounce cups out of it. With my older drip brewer, it took only four tablespoons. In exchange, the quality is *vastly* better, you can use almost any grounds, and after you’ve plunged it, the coffee stays excellent for at least an hour. Seems well worth it to me, but if your coffee budget is small, the higher consumption might be something to consider.

    Great coffee

Plus side: The Espro makes great tasting coffee if you start with good beans. If preheated, it will hold a good drink temperature for an hour or more and decanting is not needed. Downside: Even with the fine mesh screen there is still a bit of fines in the brew. It is also hard to pour out the last cup as the grounds can block the basket. Putting a paper filter over the basket would probably solve these minor issues. Overall I’m glad I purchased this unit.

Worth the money, buy this and don’t look back

Great tasting coffee, very little sediment, lovely stainless steel construction, it’s worth the extra time in the morning. I was afraid the filters would become damaged during manual hand cleaning but after over a month of every day use, no problems. Min and max lines are accurate, too high it slightly overflows around seal when inserting the plunger, too low and at full insertion the filter won’t hit the top of the grounds, leaving unfiltered coffee left in the bottom. Recommend to wash filters in dishwasher once every two weeks or so because the seal around the outer filter gets discolored with constant use and manual cleaning doesn’t do the job like the dishwasher does. And be careful during travel and don’t wash with steel wool or anything abrasive, it scratches easily, or at least the polished steel I bought does. But it’s worth the extra care, I love this press. Kind of nuanced, but I put in about 85-90 grams of coffee and fill to the max line every day (for two lol) and since this is a lot of grounds, the plunger won’t insert all the way because the filters hit the top of the grounds before full travel. This is mildly annoying, but reducing the max travel of the plunger for the strong coffee drinkers would force the min volume to increase, which isn’t desirable, so it’s ok. Very well thought out by Espro, great press.

    Best coffee maker!

This is excels as a French Press coffee maker. The double micro-filter keeps all grinds out of the coffee. It works so well that I now grind my coffee beans as fine espresso grind and still have no grinds in my coffee.Big benefits: no filter or pod to throw into the trash, easy to clean, and residual grinds (espresso very fine grind) just wash down the drain. The double wall stainless steel container keeps my coffee hot and is easy to pour.

I bought this to replace a different model i purchased about 6 months ago. The “plunger” on that one did not hold together more than a month. Once it came apart it was impossible to eliminate grounds from dispensing with the coffee in spite of following the instructions. This new replacement is so much sturdier, heavy and makes perfect coffee every time. I like that you stir the grounds after pouring in the coffee. I rarely give reviews but couldn’t ignore giving this one the credit it serves. Love it!!

It’s nice but there some downsides.

I’ve used this for about a month now. I like the outer steel container. It’s heavy duty and looks nice. The coffee tastes good, and it does stay warm for longer than my old glass French press. The downsides are that both filters are plastic, and the rim appears to be silicone. It’s extra work cleaning both filters and my worry is that the silicone rim will show signs of wear eventually and need to be replaced. So far it is holding up fine, but the Bodum French press filters were all stainless still and would never really need to be replaced (no plastic). The Bodum French press filter was also simpler to clean quickly compared to this multi layer filter that must be taken apart each time. The other little downside for me the large size. The 32oz is really big… it can actually hold about twice as much coffee as my old Bodum. If my partner also drank coffee in the morning this press would be perfect. But just for me, it’s way too big and it’s hard to see the measuring lines on the inside of the container. Finally, when I pour out the coffee, there is always quite a lot of coffee still in the container trapped with all the grounds which is a waste. You can get most of the coffee out by pulling up the plunger, picking up the container and pushing the plunger down again as you pour. But it’s kind of annoying.I wanted to treat myself to a really nice FP. Overall, this is a nice press, but I’m not in love with it. I did love my glass Bodum but my Bodum would break up with me every year or so. My search for the perfect FP continues on.

    Works pretty well.

I would give it 5 stars if it had one layer of mesh that completely allowed the removal of all silt. Even better would be something that allowed us to add an inexpensive paper filter to help catch the oil and silt.

Pretty much what I had hoped for

So the ESPRO P7 is pretty much what I had hoped it would be. I do love making French press, but it’s always a pain in a few ways. First is that, eventually, I end up breaking the glass on a traditional press. This is not a problem for the ESPRO as that thing is built like a tank. I mean, it’s not gonna break. Second problem I always have is that every single cup I pour out of a traditional press always leaves a bit of coffee sludge at the bottom of my cup…my previous presses could never filter it out…it drove me nuts. Again, not a problem for ESPRO. The micro filter thingy does a tremendous job of making sure my coffee is sludge-free (I do get a very tiny amount on the very last cup…but I am wondering if that is the result of switching my grinder settings back from the espresso setting (“18” on my Breville) to French press grind setting (“58”)…i.e., if there is not a tiny amount of coffee powder left over in my French press grind. The ESPRO is really simple to clean…it’s easy to whomp the bottom of the press to get the grounds to pop out, then simply rinse everything out. So, overall, I’m super happy with the ESPRO…I wish I had heard of it sooner.

    Works very well but…

Works very well but the matte black finish (which was part of my selling point) is already chipping away after 2 months of use and regular cleaning. The functionality of the product I give 5 stars. I use smooth coffee with this and it takes the acidic factor away which meets my needs. However. This thing will now look like a silver and matte black pot that’s been through a house fire shortly. I don’t think an eye pleasing esthetic should be ruined so easily and be this expensive. The answer is simple though. Don’t sell it in powder coated colors. If it works really well. I’m sure people will just say screw it I’ll get the silver one because of how well it works. This will look like crap over time though and it’s a bummer.

Awesome Coffee Worth it for sure!!!!

I hardly ever write reviews but wanted to help anyone who is debating whether to buy this or not so here it goes:After breaking our second Chemex we were on vacation and the Vrbo we were staying at had a stainless steel French press (it was old and we couldn’t figure out the brand). My wife commented on how great it was and it made really good coffee (she grew up in the coffee region of Colombia and knows about coffee!). So when we got home my search began to surprise her with a stainless steel French press. I will say after reading some of the reviews I was a bit skeptical and almost went with another brand. After reading everything ai could find I decided to go with the Espro in 32. She loved the aesthetics and we knew it was built to last. After reading the instructions on the site and some of the reviewers, I began to make some excellent cups of coffee! If you are hesitating don’t, it doesn’t disappoint! So this is long but wanted to address issues posted on here:yes you will get some coffee at the bottom but just pump and you will get every last drop (if you need it lol)It does keep coffee warm for a “reasonable amount of time not all morning!) Thriw it in the microwave if it’s been hours smh)We ended up getting the smaller one for during the week when on the run….Large makes 3-4 cups Small 2-3 so depending on the day (Large on the weekends) oh and we found no difference based on size.I would purchase this and it may seem a bit expensive but other than having to replace the filter this thing is indestructible and you will get your money’s worth over time. I hope this was helpful….I could go into what worked for us but this is long already I would definitely invest in a burr grinder and scale if you don’t have one and prepare to have amazing coffee everyday!

Couldn’t wait to get my ESPRO!

Exceeds my expectations! Never had better coffee! No grinds, coffee is piping hot. I got the cranberry color and it is gorgeous. I had been using a plastic travel press. It did the job but I always had grounds in my coffee (I just thought it was part of what a press did). I can’t believe how clean this coffee is. I highly recommend this press. Quit throwing away those Kcups and get a better cup of coffee!

Great for 2 cups or more

I like this French Press mostly – there is a minimum 4 tablespoons of coffee and a minimum water line. If you just want a single cup of coffee, perhaps there’s a single cup option. I have to position the press in just the right light when pouring in hot water. I think the insulation claims are a bit over-rated. Overall, I think it’s a good press; I’m keeping it & using it daily.

    Solid – nice features…

The Espro French Press is considerably more expensive than the glass models. For that, the fit and finish is great – I do not have a glass French press for a direct A/B comparison, but from my recollection the double filter is more effective at straining the fines, and the double-wall construction helps retain heat a little longer. There is no vacuum between the walls, so do expect thermos-like heat retention. The press is no easier or more difficult to clean than any other French press.

    Deserves the Wirecutter Recommendation

Wanted to brew coffee using a French press, but recall all the grounds that would end up in the cup. So far, this French press has not had that problem. The 18 ounce size is adequate for the amount of coffee I usually drink. This would not be big enough for serving several people.

Great features, but there’s still some ‘silt’.

The insulated container and the sealed ring that keeps the brewed coffee separate from the grounds are both great ideas. Unfortunately, the dual microfiltered basket does not filter out the silt from my (burr) ground beans. There is still some (much less) ‘silt’ left even with the paper filters. FYI when I use the paper filters with my other French Press, the ‘silt’ is eliminated.

Love the Body of French Press? Buy Something Else.

Cons- Coffee made in this will not taste like a French Press, because it will lack in body.- Sludge in cup is slightly less than a regular Bodum press.- Does not press all the way down, wasting a significant portion of brewed coffee (roughly 50-75ml).Pros- Coffee is similar to a pour over with more body.- Coffee tastes cleaner than a regular French Press.- Takes less effort than a pour over.- Keeps coffee super hot until removed.- Coffee stops brewing after being plunged.- Tastes better than typical drip coffee.- Fairly easy to clean for a French Press. This isn’t really a French Press. This is a press coffee maker with a unique method of brewing, and it may work for you. The brewing method requires at least 15oz (~440 ml) of water and maxes out at 18oz (~530 ml). The narrow brewing range means you are committed to making a certain amount of coffee, where as a normal French Press provides greater flexibility. Roughly 50-75ml of water will be retained with the coffee in the bottom. So, this makes about 1-1.5 regular-sized mugs of coffee. Buy the larger size if you will use it for more than 2 people. If you want to make something that tastes similar to a pour over made with a paper filter, but with more body, this might be the ideal brewing device for you. You can just grind your coffee, dump hot water in the press, give it 30 seconds, swirl/ stir, and then cover and wait 3.5min before pressing down slowly. This requires less effort than a standard pour over, and the results are about 80% as good.Once everything cools down, this is easy to clean. It will retain heat for a long time, so you’ll want to be careful when cleaning it.I did not like this brewing device. I’m team #clothfilter for pour overs and in my Aeropress. I was just looking for a good way to make 2-3 cups of heavier bodied coffee at a time. I’ll look elsewhere.

    Coffee left in pot

I have the chrome model and I must say there is no sludge with the coffee. What I don’t like is when I made one cup or two I have to make 3 pumps with the top to get all the coffee out.. If I made 2 cups I have 4 teaspoons of coffee left in the bottom. My unit is new.

Makes great coffee if you DON’T follow the instructions!

When I first got this French Press, I was disappointed. The coffee, frankly, tasted MUCH worse than my old cheap press. It was bitter and full of nasty flavors. I’ve seen a few other reviews here experience the same issue. At such a high price point, I was astounded… But I decided to stick it out and try a few things.Of course, you see this is a 5-star review, so here’s the deal: this thing can make AMAZING coffee, but you have to ditch some French Press “best practices” to get there. Or at least, I did. Here’s what I did:- Grind as course as you can get it.- If you are using very fresh coffee, let it “bloom” twice as long as you would normally. – I do a full minute, and wouldn’t do less! – I use a 2:1 ratio of water to coffee for the bloom. (So if I am using 35g of coffee, I add 70g of water, and let sit for 1 minute).- Stir after the bloom! – This helps release gasses that make coffee bitter. – I believe this is related to the double-filter system. I theorize it traps more gasses than usual… In either case, this has been essential.- Brew for WAY less than normal. Four minutes? Fuggetaboutit. 2.5 minutes TOPS. – I usually do two minutes from the time I have finished pouring in water (which I pour at 200 degrees F).- During the press, be sure to back off if you hear gurgling. Try to go more slowly to keep from releasing too many gasses. When I follow these steps, absolutely excellent coffee is the result. I’m not positive why this is so radically different from traditional French Press strategy, but if you’re experiencing bitter coffee from your press, I highly recommend giving these steps a try! And once you follow them, this press is well worth the money!Good luck, and great cups!

    Works well, but overpriced.

I have many types of coffee making devices, collected over the decades, and this one does its job of filtering the grounds quite well. However, given the flimsiness of some of its parts, i.e. the plastic filter holders, it doesn’t live up to its premium price (over a hundred dollars as of this writing). It does not strike me as something that will last for a long time without those parts failing.WORTH NOTING: If you’re preparing properly, i.e. the right grinder setting and steep time, then filtering the grounds shouldn’t be a problem in any French press.

Best French Press on the market today

After doing a lot of research I decided to purchase the ESPRO P7 French Press. I did this for several reasons:1. It’s insulated stainless steel and not GLASS. This was important to us because while glass is pretty, it is also fragile and we would likely accidentally break a glass french press within months,2. The reusable double filtration system on this French Press practically eliminates any grinds ending up in your cup of coffee. The system is simple to clean and also highly effective.3. Dishwasher safe. After you brew, simply scrape out the grinds into the compost or trash bin and then give it a quick rinse and toss the carafe and plunger in the dishwasher.4. Size. This french press is large enough to make 32oz of coffee per brew. This allows enough for me and my wife to share. The insulated stainless keeps the brew warm long enough that we can each have a cup when we are ready in the morning.

    Another Wirecutter Home Run

When I read the recommendation for this “upgrade pick” on Wirecutter, I really didn’t think an almost $100 french press could be worth it. But, I really wanted something that would keep my coffee warmer longer and mentioned it to my fiancé, who very thoughtfully gifted it to me for Christmas. After a few days of use, all I have to say is “wow”. This French Press is a joy to use. The plunger moves with almost no force when filled with water and coffee. An hour after brewing, my coffee is still drinkably warm. The design is absolutely beautiful and the metal handle feels extra elevated. (I have the brushed steel finish.) The double filter keeps grounds and sludge out of the poured coffee, as promised. Honestly, any french press will make decent coffee but if you want something special, this is the one.

This coffee maker upped my game

I am a long time morning French press user. It’s been my favorite way to do it, and favorite form factor for a simple coffee setup. Anyway.. this thing has truly changed my coffee making game. Going to an espro press from a regular French press is like changing from a bag of preground coffee to buying your own grinder and doing it fresh. It’s that big of a difference in flavor. The lack of sludginess in the cup is also amazing. I would like to add their customer service is top notch as well, I had a very minor issue with my lid spinning on my initial unit and they promptly went above and beyond to make it right. Highly reccomend this coffee maker!!

    works great

Okay – I’ve had this item for a few months now (I think), and I have been really pleased with the item. It filters well with the double filtration – I’d say 98% of the sediment stays in the bottom. People that complain about the waste of ‘coffee’ at the bottom need to go elsewhere if they complain about what is equal to a swallow or two. For me it is well worth it not to deal with the sediment. I’ve never had any grounds in my coffee either, which with some of the cheaper French presses I’ve used in the past that’s been an issue along with the serious amount of sediment. The coffee stays hot in the unit for a few hours. If you don’t drink it within a decent time frame, no it won’t be hot anymore. But I personally don’t take 5 hours to drink a couple cups of coffee. Not to sure how many people do. If you take that long – buy an actual thermos to transfer the liquid into to keep hot. : )Anyways, I’m very pleased with this purchase – just wish I had waited and got the larger one. That way I can drink MORE COFFEEEEEEEE!!!!! MWAAHAAHAAHAA

18oz Not good for a single cup (230ml)

Personnally, I didnt like it much, the 18oz has minimum whoch is around 500+ml, so I cant make one cup for my self (230ml). When you press it, a 100 ml of youre coffee will be retaind, if plane to pour it, you gona have the over extracted muddy coffee, unless you pour it all immediately after 4min, you’ll have less of the muddy coffee.I think if you need to make 2 cups, this is will be good for you. But even with 2 cups or more, i don’t see that good tast every body talking about.Im a regular Coffee drinker, I use different brwing methods (v60, clever, mokapot, regular french press). I dont see this Espro have that advantages over these brwers I already have that deserve the price of it. If they can lower the price a little to 70-80$(I paid more to ship it to Saudi Arabia for shipping & import fees) then yes, this will be the best to buy over any other french press avilable here.Again this is my personal openion. And may be will suitable for you.

This is actually our second purchase with this brand-should have just bought this one to begin with. We initially got the smaller version in glass but it managed to crack on the rim and became a hazard when washing. So I went back and purchased these sturdier version, pricey for sure but we are happy and use it daily.

    Very good

I’m very sure all of these French process produces just about the same results. However, this one has an extra filter, which does reduce sediments. But due to the extra filter, you don’t get a complete pour from the canister.

    Make’s amazing coffee!!

I am a coffee snob. Seriously I am and I love this new French press with the double straining basket! This is the best coffee I’ve ever had and that saying a lot! I highly recommend this product.

Nice quality but blue doesn’t look blue

Really nice quality French press. Only complaint, which is a caution for buyers who prefer the color blu: this blue practically never actually looks blue – instead it appears black. I wish designers would stop adopting this shade of blue without offering an alternative that actually looks blue most of if not all of the time, especially since the photos on line suggest that it’ll look blue most of the time.

    Excellent French press

I use this every day on my boat. It makes delicious coffee and the carafe keeps it warm. This is the second on I have purchased. The top to my first fell in the water and sank – only critique is I was unable to find the top only as a replacement part and had to purchase a new one. Perhaps it is possible to purchase the top but I didn’t see it online.

    Best French Press

We have used several French presses and this one is by far the best that produces very smooth coffee

Great french press, doesn’t retain the heat as hyped

I own two bodum french press, which do a great job, reasonably priced, but it’s glass and does not retain the heat. Wirecutter gave a glowing review for this press, which touts the double walled insulation contained in the carafe. This does not keep the coffee hot for long. Very disappointed in that feature of the press.

    Best French Press

I’ve had a number of French Presses over the years, but this Espro is the best! The insulated carafe keeps coffee nice and hot, as opposed to the presses with the glass carafe. The double filters are much better than those little mesh ones that come with other presses. Smooth cup of coffee with no bitterness. Highly recommended.

    Best French Press EVER!

This makes the best tasting coffee I’ve ever had outside of a specialty coffee shop. I’ve been a barista for almost 5 years and frequently make coffee at home. This is infinitely better than my old French press and worth every penny!

    Expensive but love it!

First French press that actually filters out most of the coffee silt. I still get a bit at the bottom of my coffee cup, but nothing like the others. Seems durable and should last a long time.
